Apple has released iOS 16.7.14 to resolve a critical issue that prevented some older iPhone models in Australia from connecting to emergency services. The update addresses a bug introduced in iOS 16.7.13, which interfered with emergency calling on certain networks.
The fix applies to the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. According to Apple's release notes, iOS 16.7.14 corrects a mobile network issue that could block emergency calls.
Apple pulled iOS 16.7.13 shortly after its release once reports confirmed the problem, though some users had already installed the update. In the interim, Apple worked with Australian carriers to mitigate the issue.
Last week, Telstra issued a carrier settings update that temporarily restored emergency calling by adjusting network-related configurations. The underlying issue is linked to ongoing changes by Australian mobile operators to modernize emergency call support, which has caused compatibility problems for some older devices.
Apple has been deploying multiple updates to address these challenges, including recent fixes for affected regions. Users can download iOS 16.7.14 by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update on supported iPhones. An accompanying iPadOS 16.7.14 update is also available for older iPad models.
